About the Opportunity

Recovery Colleges provide education platforms that bring together mental health consumers, carers and service providers to enable self-directed recovery and learning opportunities.  Recovery Colleges are based on the community college model, with co-production central to the model.  People with lived experience of mental illness are involved in every aspect of course development and delivery.

MDS is seeking to employ a fixed term Manager for our new South Western Sydney Recovery College. This role involves leading the establishment and operation of the Recovery College in collaboration with key stakeholders.  

Key Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Recruiting, coaching, mentoring and managing performance of the Recovery College team
  • Demonstrating a commitment to principles and practices of recovery and co-design in all dealings with students, carers, staff and stakeholders
  • Managing the development and implementation of the Recovery College by service and planning development 
  • Identifying opportunities for Recovery College sustainability or service improvement for the Recovery College programs and activities.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g., social work, social welfare, human services) 
  • Demonstrated experience in training curriculum development, providing and designing and evaluation of training packages associated with mental health and recovery.
  • Demonstrated experience, commitment and application of recovery-oriented principles in mental healthcare 
  • Demonstrated skills in all aspects of program management and customer service excellence to achieve quality outcomes 
  • High level of interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to network, liaise and negotiate effectively with a wide range of people and stakeholders to achieve program/project outcomes
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills
  • Working with Children Clearance
  • Drivers Licence

Desirable

  • Student data base management 
  • Previous experience supporting mental health peer workers

The position is full time on a fixed-term contract until June 2021. This role is covered under the SCHCADS Award Level 6 classification ($41.66-$43.49 per hour) . Also offered is salary packaging, flexible working hours, mobile phone and leave loading.
