About the Opportunity

MDS is seeking to employ a fixed term Capacity Building and Engagement Facilitator for our Partners in Recovery team. This position supports people living with severe and persistent mental illness and complex needs to develop skills, knowledge, confidence and capacity to actively engage with the NDIS towards successful transition and/or access to mainstream services and supports across the community.

Key Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Work alongside consumers to coach and encourage the development of self-advocacy skills – either 1:1 or in a group
  • Provide guidance and practical skills development to consumers to effectively engage and transition to the NDIS and/or mainstream services
  • Facilitate capacity building and learning activities for consumers who have been found ineligible by NDIA and have been placed on PIR’s inactive list.
  • Respond to enquiries from consumers, their families and carers and proactively intervene when NDIS processing arrangements are not working or the client becomes disconnected from the process for transition

The successful applicant will have:

  • Appropriate experience and qualifications Diploma or higher in a relevant discipline (e.g., social work, social welfare, human services)
  • A thorough understanding of and commitment to recovery-oriented principles in mental healthcare;
  • Demonstrated skills in working with consumers with severe and persistent mental illness with complex needs to develop their capacity
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the NDIS and supporting consumers to access the scheme

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in case management or care co-ordination

The Position is on a fixed term full time contract until 30 June 2019. This role is covered under the SCHCADS award classification Level 5 ($37.03 - $39.11). Also offered is salary packaging, flexible working hours and leave loading.
