About the Opportunity

MDS is seeking expressions of interest from existing MDS Workers for a fixed term Allied Health Therapy Assistant. The purpose of this position is to provide assistance to the Allied health and behaviour support teams in supporting participants (children and adults) registered with the NDIS.  This is done through undertaking a range of less complex allied health tasks, both therapeutic and non-therapeutic. 

This assistance enables participants to receive additional therapeutic supports and allow allied health professionals to focus on more complex therapeutic work and provide support to a greater number of clients.

Key Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Assist to conduct Therapy assessment and intervention to support community-based participants in maintaining, or improving, functional abilities and independence.
  • Facilitate and implement session plans in therapy under the guidance of allied health professional
  • Develop resources for implementation during therapy
  • Deliver training on behaviour support plans under the guidance of allied health professional
  • Implement plans that reflect participant's NDIS goals 
  • Undertake accurate and timely documentation and communication, including clinical notes, reports, responding to inquiries and the NDIA.
  • Provide direct client related activities under the supervision of the delegating Allied Health Professional and in accordance with NDIS Competency framework
  • Provide clinical support tasks under the supervision of the delegating Allied Health Professional.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in providing Allied health supports (OT/Behaviour Support assistance), or equivalent/relevant qualification
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Current Drivers Licence and access to a reliable motor vehicle.
  • Current Working with Children Clearance
  • Current NDIS Worker Clearance

Desirable:

  • Certificate III Allied Health Assistance or working towards
  • Experience working with children and adults with a disability / mental health and from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds

NOTE: There may be opportunity in maintaining existing support worker hours in addition to taking on this role. Please discuss with your supervisor or HR on how this might be supported

The Position is Part Time Fixed Term resulting from a Parental leave vacancy from around 5 January 2026 until 30 April 2026. Part Time - 12 hours per week (3/4 hours per day 3 x days a week). The role is covered under the SCHCADS Award Level 3 classification ($38.65 - $41.45 per hour). Also offered is salary packaging and leave loading. A copy of the job description can be found here.
